OLED monitors are flat computer screens that use organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as pixels rather than liquid crystals. The emissive layer of organic molecules (such as polyaniline, shown in green in the diagram) sandwiched between these electrodes can illuminate when current travels between a cathode and an anode (electroluminescence). The emissive layer and the anode are separated by a layer known as the conductive layer (orange in the diagram), which is composed of organic plastic molecules like polyfluorene. The conductive layer is left with a positive charge after the anode, which is positively charged, drains electrons from it, drawing them from the emissive layer instead. In the electrophosphorescence process, light is produced as a byproduct.
